How do you reach close-minded people?
It’s generally not possible unless they have an event that shocks them into thinking they might be wrong. Even then there will be some people who will be VERY resistant to new ideas which they cannot accept. Here are some possible reasons for being close-minded. A person might have one or more reasons, and they may not be aware of a single one. Honest self-knowledge is an important part of wisdom.
Narcissism, a personality disorder, is famous for its intolerance to new or different ideas. In narcissism, the patient is so insecure they feel the need to construct a fabricated reality around them. Social media is not a cause of narcissism, but it’s a tool which makes it easy for a narcissist to make a fake facade around their life. So when that facade is threatened with studies or facts, they can get verbally or physically violent.
Some people have a big ego, so that will not let them admit they might be wrong.
Some people don’t have the courage to admit they are wrong, or to admit things are worse than they thought.
Some people just have a hard time dealing with the truth, and ignore it hoping it will go away.
Some professionals, like doctors, have their jobs threatened. They may lose their job if they don’t follow the narrative. Some doctors and nurses have already lost their jobs for speaking up with facts and studies.
Use your valuable time and resources to address people who are on the fence and might have an open mind. A closed mind will never let in good ideas.
