How to spot fake reviews on Amazon.
https://www.fakespot.com/ is a Chrome browser add on that will help you spot fake reviews. And item that has too many fake reviews should be avoided as it is likely very low quality and may not work at all.
At the time of this writing Fakespot supports reviews on these sites: Amazon, Ebay, Best Buy, Sephora, Shopify, Walmart.
You also don’t have to use the add-on, you can get a link to the product and paste it into the Fakespot website box, then click the Analyze button.
Some of the ways reviews can be spotted as fakes.
Go to the reviewer’s account. If they have nearly all 5 star reviews they are fake. Normal people have a mix of good and bad reviews of a mix of products.
Go to the reviewer’s account. If they only have 1 review it’s probably a fake review.
In China, due to the collapsing economy, more people have “phone banks” of 20 or more phones. Each phone has a different account on it for Amazon, or Walmart, etc. The person leaves fakes reviews and gets paid for them from someone else, typically the person selling the product.
Fake reviews are often short and vague. A review like “This works great!” with no reason why it works great is likely fake.
DISCLAIMER: I have not reviewed this add-on but it looks interesting.
Amazon used to have its own AI trying to spot a product with too many fake reviews. But I cannot find it anymore. They must have taken it down.
