Lithium batteries used outside all summer worked well!
I have a hose timer. It turns on when I set it to, and waters the plants. I set it to water more often in the hot dry summer months. People who don’t live here generally don’t see Michigan summers as deserts, but that’s what they are. Most of Michigan is very sandy, with the exception of the Southeast area, where Detroit is. So it gets hot and dry in the summer, and desert plants thrive in the sandy soil. We have yuccas and prickly pear growing in the wild, typically with a southern exposure.
My hose timer requires 2 AA batteries but I learned around 2010 that alkaline batteries self-discharge the hotter it is, so alkaline batteries for this application are out. So I bought some rechargeable lithium batteries for this. They have a micro USB port to recharge them from a normal USB charger. They worked great! I didn’t have to recharge them once during the summer.
The brand is EBL if you want to try them. Use this link (not a referral link) or just search for “EBL rechargeable lithium AA battery”.
