Quick Review of 2024 Honda HRV
We just got a new 2024 Honda HRV for my wife. It has a few quirks we are learning about which I will summarize here.
No HRV has an on-board GPS. This car hooks to your phone to use whatever GPS app on your phone like Waze or Google Maps via another app called Android Auto for Android phones. Most people have a cell phone these days. I do not.
We found that looking for one of the most popular stores in our area called Meijer that the voice search will not work if any inside fan is on, it makes too much background noise. When using voice commands turn off all fans in the car and everyone must be very quiet. The car going at high speed will also make more noise and the voice commands may not work well then either. We will test this more later.
Using the cell phone navigation through the car is very slow. We must wait 5 seconds after every voice command to see if the computer found what we are looking for. We have not tested the map update capability on the highway yet, which is when we will use it most. This might be because of the blue tooth connection is a bit slow and the car computer is also a bit slow.
Bring the manual in the house so you can read it if you get a new car.
We will make quick ref sheet to have in the car for common things we do to help us.
We do like the car. Here are some of the things we like.
It has wireless charging built into the console in the front seat.
It has one USB A port for charging and two USB-ports for charging, which backseat users can use. Make sure you buy the correct cable for the port you want to use. We do not have any USBC-USBC cables yet.
On the left side of the driver console inside the RPM circle gauge is another computer screen. Various messages can be seen here and various settings are controlled via a wheel on the steering wheel.
It has a back up camera.
It has collision detection on the side mirrors.
It has front and rear defrost and heated mirrors.
It has heated front seats with different controls.
It has power windows with window lockout to stop kids from playing with windows.
It has a kid lockout for the door handles so kids inside the car cannot open the door.
We got the Diamond Ceramic coating which should prevent rust and make it easier to remove bird droppings, sap, dead bugs, etc.
What’s the last thing that goes through a bug’s mind when it hits your windshield? It’s butt.
EDIT: We have tested the GPS update and it updates fast enough. But what we found out is the voice feature will not work while driving for some reason even though the prompt on the vehicle screen says “Voice activated only while driving” or something like that. To get the voice feature to work with the GPS we have to put the car in park, turn off all fans and other noise, and use it.
I am disappointed in the voice GPS feature but we like the rest of the car so far.
