When editing
These tips apply to editing articles on a desktop PC with a browser. I don’t use the app.
When editing an unpublished article, if you click the left arrow in a circle in the upper left of the edit window, you can go back to your dashboard without publishing the article or setting a publish date and time. The article, if never published, will appear under “Drafts”.
If the article has been given a publish date and time, click the article, edit it, then click that left arrow in the upper left to go back. All your changes are saved automatically. If you click the Continue button instead, this will unschedule your post, so you can schedule a new date and time for it to be published.
Other tips
To delete a draft post, click on it to edit it. In the lower right of the browser window click Settings. Then click the Delete button.
After your article is published you can make changes to it for about 2-3 weeks, I’m not sure of the time frame. After that you cannot change it but you can add addendums to a comment of the article.
What other tips do you have? Please share in the comments.
Didn't know this feature existed until a couple weeks ago:

I'm not sure why you're experiencing this—I have never had issues with updating previous posts, no matter how old. I had to do this recently after PayPal canceled me and I had to remove the PayPal donate button from all past posts.
