Tiddlywiki, or just TW, is a self-contained single self-modifying HTML file that allows you to keep all your notes in one place. It uses its own Wiki markup, but also supports HTML and Markdown. To get more info see https://tiddlywiki.com. You can also download that file, or get a blank Tiddlywiki.
Tiddlywiki is composed of pages, or cards, which they call “tiddlers”. It’s like the old Apple hypercard stack from the 1980s.
Some uses are: track notes, about maths, physics, and engineering, track news articles or studies, manage tasks and todo lists, journaling, create an online shop, create a web page, chemistry periodic table, collect and report on time spent on projects (timesheet), manage your budget, and much more.
It can also be used with node.js and as a standalone app, but using it in a browser as a plain HTML file is simplest for most people.
It also works with Amazon Web Services, Google Drive, WebDAV, Dropbox, and more.
Safe Mode can disable most tweaks on Tiddlywiki, so this might be good for a read-only kiosk application.
You can also save audio and PDF files in side the Tiddlywiki file. It supports links to internal tiddlers as well as to external websites.
Tiddlyhost allows you to access your Tiddlywiki from any computer and browser for free! And it has several flavors of Wiki, including Tiddlywiki, and Featherwiki, a lighter smaller wiki. Tiddlyhost is the new site that replaced Tiddlyspot.
It’s supported by Firefox, Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (including Brave Browser), and many operating systems like Windows, Android and Mac.
It also has many plugins to do footnotes, markdown, and more. You can even insert wiki text in another wiki so you don’t have to type things twice. This is called “transclusion”. This promotes modularity.
If you know of any interesting examples using Tiddlywiki please post them in the comments below.
